Abstract

The change in the mechanical properties of the red blood cell membrane was analyzed in patients with ongoing or past COVID-19 infection compared to the control during the observation period from 2021 to 2023. Significant differences in the friction force (p<0.001) and roughness (p<0.0032) of the red blood cell membrane were found in patients with acute/past coronavirus infection compared to the control. It was noted that the maximum changes in the properties of the red blood cell membrane are observed during the period of the highest incidence of COVID-19. The friction force (Fl) and roughness (Rq) of the red blood cell membrane can be used to assess the severity of past coronavirus infection, and in the future, other diseases.
